Recap Of The Top 10 Football Jerseys Of 2014-2015

By Christy Flom on March 2, 2015

A couple of years ago, there was an image circulating the internet of football jerseys for the University of Michigan, supposedly designed by Nike.

With a sweet design involving the outline of the state on predominantly white jerseys with navy blue and maize yellow mixed in, this jersey was an instant hit online.

However, it was also disappointing to many Wolverine fans because Michigan is one of the few Division I college football teams sponsored by Adidas and not Nike.

The spread of this image led to a bigger debate of who has better jerseys: Nike or Adidas? While I have no concrete answer to this debate, I do have to admit there are some very cool football jerseys being designed for teams these days.

With spring football just around the corner, here is a recap of the most intimidating and statement making jerseys of last season.

10. West Virginia

With blue and “old gold” as the Mountaineers’ school colors, the football team stands out against any opponent. I personally like their yellow jerseys the best, as the bright color makes the team fun to watch as they sprint across the field.

9. Oregon State

The black and orange combination not only reminds me of my favorite holiday, Halloween, but it is an intimidating combination. The bright orange and slick black would intimidate any opponent. Throw in some yellow on those jerseys and we would have a great jack o’ lantern dominating the field.

8. Michigan

While Michigan usually has throwback jerseys for big games, this year they switched it up for their night game against Purdue. It was the first time the Wolverines wore all blue uniforms, with yellow numbers that seemed to reflect light as the night sky dominated the game.

7. Washington

Washington has purple jerseys, which to me is all I needed to see to add them to this list. The purple and gold create a royal appearance during games, but it was the all-white jerseys that really stood out last season.

With dashes of solid purple on the arms, the Huskies also had the intimidation factor on their side, looking professional and ready to dominate in the uniforms.

6. Miami

The coolest part of Miami’s orange, green and white uniforms is the orange to green U on their helmets. No matter what jersey they step out onto the field in, their helmets proudly display their school colors with an unmatchable caliber of coolness.

As for the jerseys, I initially favored the orange jumpsuit option but their green uniforms with orange sleeves really stood out on the field last year.

5. Baylor

With a gold helmet and some gold shoes, these all black uniforms have upped the ante on the intimidation scale.

While their green and white jerseys are still respectable designs, the uniform of dark jerseys with the gold at the top and bottom created a polished and revamped look for the Baylor team.

4. Nebraska

The school colors of Nebraska are stated as “scarlet and cream” but these simple and soft words do not translate into the intense jerseys of Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers red jerseys are a sharp contrast to the field and their stadium becomes maize and red during home games.

3. UCLA

With “true blue” and gold as their school colors, UCLA switched it up last season going with midnight blue jerseys, accenting their lighter blue on the numbers and gloves.

The small pops of true blue create a great combination of colors that would make any team jealous of these jerseys.

2. Ohio State

The Buckeyes are second on this list because Nike designed brand new jerseys for them to wear while they won the National Championship game.

The iconic red and white combination of the Buckeyes was enhanced through Nike’s design, but I must say the jerseys were disappointing in comparison to what I was expecting for the championship game in January.

Maybe next year will be better.

1. Oregon

Oregon kills the design game with their football uniforms. First they started a trend of designs on basketball courts and now they have basically revolutionized the game of football uniforms.

With so many neon colors and different combinations for each game from the color of their helmets, to gloves, pants, socks and shoes, Oregon always appears fresh on the field and their jerseys are sure to be remembered and used as inspiration for future jersey designers for years to come.

Last year Nike and Adidas both stepped up their designs for their sponsored teams and their efforts paid off. Not only are the jerseys more intimidating and intense but creative too, which makes the games even more exciting.

They always say, look good play good, right? Sweet jerseys can make any team seem more competitive and threatening, which is why I can’t wait to see what teams have in store for next season.
